Small bedrooms often pose a problem. After all, we all need to have somewhere to sleep and somewhere to store clothes and, in the case of a child, somewhere to play. The most obvious space saving tip would really to install bunk beds - but then the wise parent will start think about the safety aspects of a young child climbing a ladder or even sleeping on the top bunk. Many of the newer bunk bed designs nowadays have done away with the ladder and incorporated cube-shaped climbing blocks which are certainly more stable. The other popular idea is the twin bunk bed, whereby the lower bunk extends beyond the upper side of the top bunk. This is great with older children and for teenagers for whom it has proved particularly popular - especially for the slumber party!

There is a plethora of other space saving beds on the market: one of the best space saving tips for kids in a small bedroom is the folding bed that folds completely flat up against a wall when not in use. When folded, it only protrudes 33cm into the room, leaving the whole room as available floor-space for kids to play in. While there are lots of designs on the market, and all of them are well-made, this option is not cheap. To spend this amount of money on a bed would need very careful consideration, not least in choosing the wall on which to attach it: the wall must be a solid wall so, obviously that narrows down some of the options. However, if all the criteria are right, and you can afford it, this option for kids in a small bedroom is absolutely perfect.

Now, one of the more important aspects of any kids room is storage which, in a small bedroom is even more essential. This is where the concept of the integral stairway to the top bunk comes into its own. The manufacturers recognize the necessity of this and have incorporated drawers specifically designed to fit beneath these stairs. Personally, I think this is a great idea. After all, where better to store all those small toys such as the erector sets and the Lego that absolutely always ends up where it shouldn't be. Obviously, you could store bedding and clothes in these drawers, but for kids in a small bedroom, I can't think of a better idea than to use these drawers specifically for their own possessions.

In my experience, there always seems to be one corner of any small bedroom that is simply too poky to fit any specific furniture in. That said, however, this is an ideal place to slot in a column of storage boxes. A trip to places such as IKEA will provide you with an idea of the range of boxes on the market and one of the products they sell is a clear plastic bin with a lid hinged in such a way that you can place half a dozen or more of the boxes on top of each other and still have access to the contents in the lower bins.

While there are many variations on adequate storage solutions and space-saving beds, overall space saving tips for kids in a small bedroom tends to boil down to somewhere suitable to sleep that doesn't take up too much space and sufficient storage solutions to prevent clutter from building up. Getting those two solutions correct and you have cracked it!

Nowadays, most of us have to live in smaller spaces than we want; the apartments and houses are usually way too expensive, so we need to settle with something smaller and less spacious. Although a small house or apartment is far from what we consider an ideal house, we can still make it look and feel like what we want and need. Effective and efficient interior designing for small spaces is absolutely necessary if we want to create an ideal place for us and the people we love, regardless of space. Sometimes living with less can be more.
When decorating a small space there are a few tips and hints you need to keep in mind:

* Pick a decorating style that fits your needs and your preferences. Flexibility and versatility are the main themes; keeping it minimal is always recommended because in most cases when you put too many things in one place it tends to feel clogged and heavy. A small space should allow you to breathe and when it's too occupied it obviously doesn't allow you to move properly. A clogged small space can also look pretty cluttered even if nothing belongs to the "cluttered" category.

* Choosing small and versatile pieces of furniture is suitable when considering the interior design for small spaces. There are small things that can make a difference; for instance opting for a sofa and a chair rather than a huge complex can make the room look bigger and warmer. Large pieces can definitely add to the appeal of the room, but they have to be quite well chosen in order to allow you to create the ensemble you want without feeling too heavy.

* Even if you do not believe in Feng Shui, it is recommended to consider where to place each item and piece of furniture. Do not place furniture close or in front of doors, try to keep windows free and use the vertical space. Use paintings and wall units to make the room look bigger and more spacious.
* Play with colors; it is known that colors can add to the charm of the room regardless of its size. In some cases, when you have small spaces, you can paint them in light and warm colors and make them appear bigger and friendlier. The color palette is a core aspect of the interior design for small spaces because it can have a soothing effect in the room and in your mood. If you feel like adding some darker tones in parts of the walls or some deep shades you can give some space more depth. Painting pale tones make the room appear larger, while colors such as purple and blue can make the room look playful and nice. Layering colors is another tip you can use, because you can have the same effect even adding a few colors rather than going for a monochromatic choice.

When you have a small space your interior design style should make sure that the space feels good, neat and open.
